NEXT TO (NIGHT)MARE STREET

Narrative Description

The short film follows a nocturnal character, played by Kevin Adorni, around as it enters a small Victorian bubble, called Beck Road. This creature frantically enters Beck Road and searches for suitable locations for its artworks. These urban interventions interact directly with the local neighbourhood identity. Each piece is a small dedication to the commercial shopfronts on Mare Street, perpendicular to Beck Road. We witness a dialogue appear between this new system of ornamentation and the the historic ornamentation of Beck Road’s Victorian architecture.

Production Description

The urban interventions were 3d printed in white PLA to blend like a chameleon with the existing white ornamental lintels on Beck Road. We shot the short film period in two evenings. The whole film was shot on a Black Magic Pocket Cinema in 6K. With a 24mm and 14mm lenses. It was my first time both directing and filming at the same time, which required some adapting. It was pretty challenging to keep the handheld torch lit throughout the shoot with all the running and different shots. The production assistance from Nesrin and Omar was therefore essential.
