OTHER THAN HERE

Narrative Description

This short film follows artist, Teshome Douglas-Campbell, as he prepares and works on a new painting. We observe Teshome as he is investigating and exploring the architecture of the Royal Pavilion. It gives an insight into the importance of exploring and experiencing places between periods of creation. Highlighting the need in seeking stimuli which can spark ideas and inform new projects.

Production Description

The whole film was shot on a Black Magic Pocket Cinema in 6K. With a 35mm lens. For chapter one, every shot had to be meticulously planned as we had only 3 hours to shoot at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion. We made several site visits to make sure we understood how the architecture looked on film and how we could best portray our subject, Teshome, and the buildings’ beauty. We shot the second chapter on a single piece evening at Teshome’s painting studio in London. We bought an acrylic 1.2 m2 sheet, allowing us to shoot Teshome’s from the front and back while he painted q work from start to finish.
