Owen

brouwer

Irish / Dutch ornamentalist, Owen Brouwer, uses spatial storytelling to capture different aspects of the city, the architecture and the people that live within it. Each work, in whatever medium, physical or filmic, is a spatial dedication to a particular subject, place or subculture.

The

Mission

Celebrate locality and the richness in individuality. Embrace diversity and encourage confrontation and contradiction between different visual street cultures. Isn’t that what sparks curiosity and discovery both in our physical and social environments? An equilibrium between the expected and unexpected. Reality and surreality. Amplifying the hidden or reimagining the exposed.

Ornament has the ability to tell stories and express culture spatially. Starting with psychogeography as a research method for investigating place, Owen then turns to a wide range of mediums to both capture, amplify and reimagine urban instances and visual street cultures. Brouwer aims to challenge conventional representations, perceptions and spatial practices of the city and its architecture.

Theatre

A space where the world of narratives and experiences of the city life, the urban fabric and people is expanded and transformed into visual narratives beyond just the ornamentation of the physical objects, using filmmaking. Celebrating the power of filmmaking in stimulating and fostering creative collaboration and community building.
