A DETAIL FOR ALL

The coffee table explores the eclectic use of forms, compositions and materials in Amsterdam School architecture. Central to this movement is the concept of the gesamtkunstwerk. Each individual element can function on its own but can come together to form a collective whole.

This table samples different sculptures from legendary Dutch sculptor Hildo Krop and building elements from the beautiful Scheepvaarthuis in Amsterdam.

Brouwer investigated how art can be applied to architecture and expressed in various forms such as the composition of facade elements, integrating sculptures and using the inherent qualities of building materials to inform specific spatial forms.

Art can be introduced on all building scales, from a building form to a singular brick.

Utilising a combination of traditional and more contemporary fabrication techniques.

The Iroko wood was first CNC machined and then certain details were produced through hand carving.

The terracotta relief sculpture was moulded and then casted into stained Jesmonite.

The 1.5mm mild steel is laser cut and then hand rolled and bent into its final form.
