The different patterns on the chair look at the eclectic range of sub languages within this movement. The simple shapes engraved on the wood are in dialogue with the complex geometries of the steel. Much like the design process of ornament, where simple principles/shapes are transformed and modified to construct more complex and stylistic patterns.
The chair was made using a wood called sapele and 1.5 mm thick mild steel sheets.
The fabrication of this chair required a mixture of digital and non-digital techniques in both metalworking and woodworking.
Utilizing techniques ranging from wood carving, metal bending and tig welding to CNC machining and laser cutting.
The chair is accompanied by a short film in which it contextualizes the object through human interaction.
A nomadic journey through West London’s Victorian architecture in Kensington.
This body of work is currently being explored further through jewellery and film.
